A used welder is a lot cheaper however and these days saving money means a lot. 1. If you are new to welding then it is better to go for a wire feed welder as it allows you a continuous weld. Whereas with stick welding you have to stop from time to time in order to replace the electrode or the stick as it is consumed in the welding process.

7. If you have the money to spend it is better to buy the more expensive machines. The low priced ones that are made in China have poor quality. The more expensive ones have better electronics that allows more room for error on your part.
8. Pick a welder with a good cooling fan that gives it a longer duty cycle. That means you can use it at a much longer period.
9. Pick a welder that is mounted on wheels. It makes it a lot easier to move it around as compared with having to lift it in order to transfer it from one spot to another even if it’s just within your workshop.
