I have been an eager student of welding the past few months. It was something new for me, a total departure from the usual activities that I have always been used to. In that sense, it was a real challenge, something that I looked forward to very much. And since I was so enthusiastic about it, learning how to weld became quite an easy thing for me, and it was even fun all the time. My eagerness made me learn all types of welding, from Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as stick welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) which is also known as Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) which is also called Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.
Even though I have been insistent on learning every welding process there is, I decided on specializing only on one. That process happened to be MIG welding, which happens to be an automatic process that makes use of a continuous wire feed as an electrode and an inert gas mixture that effectively protects the weld from any contamination. I happen to favor it because the actual welding speed is faster than the other processes, and that is because of the continuous electrode. One aspect about MIG welding that I am trying to perfect right now is gasless MIG welding. And that is why I am very much in pursuit of the best gasless MIG welder there is.
The Best of the Gasless
Gasless MIG welding just seemed intriguing to me, as it was something that I have never heard before, although my prior experience welding was understandably limited. I learned that there are at least a couple of notable advantages when using gasless welding. The first is that it is quite easy to use even under windy conditions. The other is that you can save on gas bottle rental, which can really be important if you are a little tight on your budget. Here are my choices for gasless MIG welders:
• Titan 41185 – 90 Amp Gasless Wire Feed Welder – This welder is actually meant for the beginner who wants to do gasless welding. It is meant for light maintenance, repairs, and even fabrication on light steel around the home, or even in your shop. Sells for about $153.00.
• Draper 43946 130A 230V Gasless MIG Welder – This gasless MIG welder from Draper is very easy to use and appropriate for light and fast work that is usually done right around the home or even for not very heavy industrial and shop use. Priced at around $428.00.
• Silverline Gas/Gasless Turbo MIG Welder 180A – This welder from Silverline is a heavy duty portable welder that performs exceptionally well, and welds aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. Precision feed, together with automatic wire feed motor and fine screw adjustment would yield great results all the time. Buy this for around $457.00.
