Making a career choice is always a sensitive thing. It can sometimes be the difference between succeeding or failing in life. That is why people spend so much time deciding and thinking about the careers that they would like to eventually pursue. And don’t think that it is always the money because that’s not always the case. Sure, that is a very important part of it, but to people who really care about having the career that they want, it is not always so. To many, it is a lot more important to know and understand the kind of career that you could have while doing the thing that you really love to do. There is no price for that, and anyone who is fortunate enough to be in that position will be quick to point that out.
That is why I did take my time trying to figure out my own career path. It was an academic one, since I love research and history and all that. Looking back now, it was definitely not easy but since I loved it and I enjoyed what I was doing, there was no problem on my part. Having being in that position for years now, and reaching my goals in my career, I am now looking to add a new career to my resume. Again, the sensitivity of making the choice is not lost on me at all. Even though I am now looking to a new career more on the basis of enjoyment rather than professional fulfillment, I know I still need to make a good choice. And that is why I chose welding, since it would seem like a worthwhile career for me.
Underwater Welders and Their Salaries
Now I chose welding because it is a pretty interesting skill for me, and also quite challenging. I must admit that I have never before been able to acquire any skill that is nearly as useful or practical as welding. That was due in large part to the nature of my academic career. But now I am about to change all of that. Right now I am looking and researching about the different types of welding, which is kind of fascinating to me. Underwater welding is an example of that, as it simply makes me curious. And the average salary for underwater welder also intrigues, since I think that there may be some element of hazard or danger involved.
I learned that underwater welders help repair broken ships or build underwater infrastructure. This means that the welder is wearing a pressurized suit all the time, which also might see the need for him to cut and rig materials. As for the salary, the American Welding Society (AWS) stated in a 2011 article that diver-welders can earn between $40,000.00 and $50,000.00. While those who are working on an oil rig and drilling platform and have more than ample experience can even earn over $100,000.00, so you can see that the pay is quite good especially for the experienced ones.
