My interest in learning useful skills has always been there. Ever since I was a child, I have been inquisitive and wanted to learn as many different things as possible. Now to learn just about everything and acquire every skill I hear about is just impossible, of course. And that is why I have had to put my focus on just a few things at a time. In years past I was more focused on the more academic type of learning, which was good since I was able to get myself a good job after college. But now that I have more time for it, I can start learning all the different skills that I deem to be practical, like welding.
There are many aspects to welding. Of course just like anyone else, I had to start from the beginning, learning with the basics of the trade. It really became attractive for me because not only is it a practical skill that I can apply at home when there a few things that need to be fixed, but it can also be considered a second career. While my skill level is not yet at the point where I can consider it as a serious career as a welder, it is already at respectable level. At this point, I am learning how to weld pipes together properly, and part of that means that I need to study the best welding backing rings that are used for welding pipes.
Of Welding Backing Rings
For those who are like myself and learning about welding backing rings for the first time, it is actually a small piece of material that is welded in between two pieces of pipes. In order for the rings to fit most pipes, welding backing rings are usually round shaped but it is also not unusual to find some square shaped ones. The ring can either be made of runner or metal such as aluminum, carbon steel, or even chrome. Its purpose is to properly align the joined pipes and hold it solidly together, while also preventing any leaks. Welders usually choose to use a backing ring since it is a pretty good piece of welding that actually results in a much stronger than the joint created through direct soldering. Fitting and welding of two pipes is made easier for the welder through the use of welding backing ring. One drawback is that it is more complex to use welding backing rings than simpler welding methods, which can lead to longer work hors for the welders as well as requiring a higher level of welding skill.
