Doug Craven Sheet Metal Welding
Hi, I’m Doug and I’ve been welding for over 30 years. I love it, and it’s afforded me a pretty good lifestyle. I started this blog on the suggestion of my son because he figured I should share some of my tips and techniques with other welders to help them hone their craft. I take a lot of pride in sheet metal welding and the business I’ve built up. My son is my business partner too and I’m proud to say he’s earning about $100k a year. Part of why I wanted to set up this blog is because society thinks that blue collar workers are crass and uneducated and poor. And I’m sick of that.
If you work hard at your trade and learn some business smarts you can do well. Forget about what they say, trades are here for good, and it’s only going to get better for us as less and less young people are going into trades. They’re soft. Anyway, like I was saying, I have a crew of young guys that are working for me and a lot of them are just throwing their potential away, not all of them but enough. And that’s a shame, and that’s why I wanted to write this blog about how to weld sheet metal and other welding advice.

I’m pretty sure that I earn more than my dentist. Yeah, it took me a while to get here, but the potential is huge. You’ve just gotta get out of that trade mindset that you’ve always got work for somebody else. I started out working for a guy and I watched carefully how he built his business and I learned from that. So when I went out on my own I had a great foudnation.
Yeah, the first few years were tough and I was hussling, but now I’m pretty much semi-retired and I’ve built a great welding business that my son is now working with me. So I hope you guys get some good tips out of this and that you start thinking about welding and trades differently. There’s good money out there if you’re smart.
So take a look around, I’m gonna talk about mig welding aluminum, arc welding sheet metal, tig welding equipment, welding thin sheet metal and a whole bunch of other welding stuff.
